Why We’re Already Excited For Daredevil Season 2

Leave it to Marvel fans to be the neediest. Netflix’ hit new series Daredevil was released in April and already fans new and old are craving their next fix, speculating over new additions to the cast and discussing all the possibilities for crossovers in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Not to spoil anything, but aside from a couple hints to future conflict, the season finale of Season 1 didn’t leave fans on much of a cliffhanger. So why all the hubbub about the upcoming second season?

1. The show is actually…good

Daredevil fans have existed for decades, especially since the release of the movie starring Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner. But with stunning cinematography, a stellar and adorable cast, and clever – if a bit melodramatic – writing, the Netflix series is giving Marvel fans something they haven’t quite experienced yet when it comes to TV adaptations. Though worthy of their fan followings, Marvel’s network TV shows Agents of SHIELD and Agent Carter aren’t able to reach the “premium cable” quality that a Netflix show can offer. Fandom-friendly websites like tumblr and reddit are riddled with photos, screencaps, gifs and most importantly fan-art to pay homage to this addicting show.

2. Tie-ins with the comic books

The show takes a bit of creative license with its source material, but one thing that sets Daredevil apart from many other adaptations is its strong relationship with the Daredevil comic books. With the inclusion of morally-ambiguous-mentor Stick and hints at other comic characters, it looks like Season 2 will include even more references and homages to the comic books. Many fan sites are already speculating about the addition of fan favorites like Bullseye and The Hand. Not to mention all the references to the Battle of New York from The Avengers means there could rationally be an Avengers crossover… in our dreams. People looking for their next fix for the TV show will probably be satisfied by reading the comic books, though they’d just need to be careful not to worry over spoilers.

3. Hot new cast members

We already had our hands full of eye candy this season with hotties like Charlie Cox and Rosario Dawson, but with the new cast announcements for actress Elodie Yung – who will be playing bad-ass ninja and possible love-interest Elektra – fans have something to really buzz about. Though questions about the addition of actor Jason Statham have been put to rest – the actor was supposedly in talks to play Bullseye but turned it down – the possibilities are endless for who else we could get to lay our eyes on during the second season.

4. Other Netflix/Marvel collaborations

Fans don’t just have one show to look forward to, they actually have 5. After Daredevil, Netflix will introduce the characters Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist in their own individual series, before bringing them all together for The Defenders. Actress Krysten Ritter (star of ABC’s Don’t Trust The B in Apartment 23) and actor Mike Coltor will be co-starring in AKA Jessica Jones as Jessica Jones and Luke Cage, respectively, before Coltor begins filming his own series. Speculations are still out for an Iron Fist casting, though some fans are hoping he will be Asian-American as it would be fitting to the character and would add to the racial diversity of the cast.
